| Hebe Stool
Hebe, an innovative stool made using folds to form five structural arcs which give the stool its strength and create this organic and sculptural shape. A slender metal cable weaves through the heart of the stool holding the structure in tension and adds an interesting architectural detail. To sit on, Hebe initially surprises by flexing under a persons weight it then moulds to their body, supporting them providing a comfortable seat which is enjoyable to sit on.
Our aim with this project was to use materials and manufacturing processes efficiently, pushing materials to perform in ways that have perhaps not been tried before. Inspired by plant growth and how folds are used in leaves to create strength, we liked the idea of using a soft and flexible material, such as foam, and through experimentations into folding techniques turn it into a structural shape capable of taking a persons weight.
